More capacity from the connection you already have
You have a connection, but it is too light for what you want — and upgrading is either impossible or years away. A battery absorbs your peaks, letting you use far more capacity than your contract allows, with nothing about the connection changing.
Why this works
Your grid operator bills you on the highest capacity you draw, not on your average. One machine kicking in or one truck fast-charging therefore sets your entire contract — and runs straight into the ceiling of your connection.
The battery absorbs exactly those peaks. The grid supplies a flat, low current; the battery supplies the difference at the moment you need it and recharges when things are quiet. Behind the meter you have far more capacity available, with nothing changing about your connection.
What it delivers
The most immediate effect is on your grid charges: a lower contracted transport capacity means a lower bill, every single month. For many businesses that saving already covers most of the monthly fee.
Beyond that, you can move again: the expansion that was on hold can go ahead, and electrifying your fleet or your process becomes a real option rather than a plan for later.
And the grid operator’s contracts are independent of all this: a capaciteitssturingscontract or biedplichtcontract can be signed on an existing connection just as well. With a battery already on site, those turn from a risk into a line of income.
